The Gosainkunda Short Trek is a celebrated pilgrimage and adventure in Nepal. It offers a relatively easy trekking experience to the sacred Gosainkunda Lakes, located at 4,380m altitude in the Langtang region. This trek is known for its natural beauty, including snow-capped peaks, enchanting forests, and captivating waterfalls. Along the trail, you can immerse yourself in the rich culture of the local Tamang communities. The highlight is Gosainkunda Lake, considered holy by both Hindus and Buddhists. The trek begins with a drive to Dunche, followed by a trek through oak forests, reaching Shing Gompa, Chalangpati, and Laurebina Yak, offering stunning mountain views. At Gosainkunda, you can marvel at the panoramic beauty of the mountains and the serene blue lake. After capturing unforgettable moments, the return journey follows the same route back to Dunche and then back to Kathmandu. Upon your arrival at Kathmandu Airport, you will be warmly welcomed to Nepal, a country known for its tranquility, cultural diversity, and religious tolerance. After exchanging greetings, you will be escorted to your hotel where you can relax and enjoy the provided facilities. Later, there will be a pre-trip meeting at our office, where you will have the opportunity to meet your trekking guide. To get acquainted with the Nepalese environment, you can take a pleasant walk in the Thamel Market. The starting point for your adventure is Himalayan Trekking Path P. Ltd, located in Kathmandu, Bagmati, Nepal.
In the morning, we will embark on an exciting journey to Dunche, navigating a steep, winding, and rugged road in a private 4WD vehicle. As we traverse this thrilling route, we will pass through charming settlements, breathtaking Trishuli gorges, and expansive forests. This scenic drive will treat you to stunning vistas, showcasing lush green hills and the majestic snow-covered Langtang Himal peak. In the evening, we will have the opportunity to explore the lively marketplace of Dunche.
Located north of Kathmandu, Dhunche is a charming town and the headquarters of Rasuwa District. This will be our starting point for the trekking adventure. We will pass through residential areas and cross a river before entering the enchanting woodland. From there, we will begin our uphill climb to Deurali (2,500m) and continue on to Dhimsa. After a few hours of trekking, we will reach Shing Gompa (3,200m), also known as Chandanbari. This picturesque village offers a pleasant surprise with its few hotels, restaurants, and a delightful café where you can enjoy a cup of good coffee. Take some time to explore the village’s main attraction, a yak-cheese factory, and witness the fascinating cheese-making process up close. Don’t miss the opportunity to taste the delicious cheese while you’re there!
Today’s trek takes us to Chalangpati (3,650m) where we can glimpse the majestic Mt. Langtang. We continue through rhododendron forests and pine woods to reach Laurebina Yak (3,900m) with its sublime mountain vistas. The trail becomes more challenging, shrouded in mist and fog, as we pass a Buddha Stupa and encounter horses transporting supplies. Along the way, we discover other beautiful lakes like Bhairav Kunda and Saraswatikunda. Finally, we arrive at the sacred Gosainkunda (4,460m), a significant Hindu pilgrimage site and the source of the Trishuli River. We are treated to breathtaking nature and have the option to visit a stunning sunset/sunrise point.
On this day, we will begin our descent from Gosainkunda to Sing Gompa. We will retrace our steps along the same trail that led us to the holy lakes. Passing through the settlements of Laurebina Yak and Chalangpati, we will eventually reach Shing Gompa (3,200m). During the trek, we will once again traverse through rhododendron and pine forests, enjoying the captivating mountain views. If you missed the opportunity to visit the renowned yak-cheese factory earlier, this will be your last chance to do so.
This very day, we’ll resume our descent. We climb down across the Dhimsa and Deurali. Afterward, we push forward a forest then a river and proceed along the trekking trail to Dunche (1,950m).
As our adventure nears its end, we will start the day by traveling back to Kathmandu in a private 4WD vehicle. The journey will be scenic yet exhilarating, as the rugged road adds an element of thrill. Brace yourself for an exciting ride. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you have the option to rest and recover from the tiring trip or explore the city and purchase souvenirs for your loved ones. Treat yourself to some delicious cuisine as a celebration of the successful completion of this memorable journey.
